According to a Feb. 15 news release from the company, the source of the plastic – which can be a choking hazard – has been identified, and the issue has been resolved.

All of the recalled products have a “Best If Used By” date of 10/04/13. This date is located on the back of the package, below the “Contact Us” information.

The following Nature’s Variety Instinct Raw Organic Chicken Formula products are included in the recall:

  • UPC# 7 69949 60137 1 – medallions in 3-pound bags

  • UPC# 7 69949 70127 9 – patties in 36-pound cases

Nature’s Variety recalled the batch after a customer complained about finding plastic pieces. There are no reports of dogs being harmed after eating the food.

“At Nature’s Variety, we take quality and safety very seriously,” CEO Reed Howlett stated in the news release. “We believe that under all circumstances, the health and safety of pets comes first.”

If you have been feeding your dog one of the recalled products, monitor your dog’s health and contact your veterinarian if you have concerns.

Consumers who purchased any of these products can obtain a full refund or exchange by either returning the product in its original packaging or bringing a proof of purchase to the store.
