Video Shows Trainer Saving Dog’s Life with CPR

A dog trainer in Tacoma, Wash., brought a seemingly dead dog back to life – and the whole thing was caught on camera.

According to NYDailyNews.com, Ron Pace, owner of the Canyon Crest Training Center for dogs, didn’t hesitate when Sugar, one of his K-9 students, had a seizure and collapsed.

“I noticed right then he wasn’t breathing,” Pace told KING 5 News.

As Pace began chest compressions on the 4-year-old Boxer, someone from the center recorded it to give to the pooch’s veterinarian. The nearly 8-minute video was later posted on YouTube and has been viewed more than 170,000 times.

In the first few minutes of the video, Sugar’s distraught dog mom, Tiffany Kauth, can be seen and heard sobbing.

“I was absolutely certain that I was losing my dog,” Kauth told KING 5 News.

Pace admitted that although he has been training dogs since 1976, he did not know the proper way to perform CPR on a dog. The video shows Pace pushing down on Sugar’s chest several times before adjusting the dog’s tongue, holding his mouth shut and breathing into his nose.

“It may have not been the correct way to do it and the way that they teach,” Pace said. “It’s the outcome that’s what was important.”

After a few chest compressions, Sugar’s chest can be seen rising and falling as he starts to breathe again. Sugar is eventually able to stand up on his own, visibly frightened and disoriented after his ordeal.

Kauth took her dog to the vet for an examination, which revealed that Sugar likely has a heart condition and must take it easy from now on.

Kauth is thankful to Pace for saving her dog’s life. “He’s amazing,” she told KING 5 News.
